Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Incorporated is a neighborhood development organization that supports other agencies in the Central neighborhood. Please contact this agency to learn more about organizations with excellent educational opportunities like the Weed and Seed program—an initiative in which law enforcement agencies work to “weed out” criminals while community-based organizations collaborate to “seed” much-needed services.

The City Mission provides a variety of valuable educational services free of charge. Through Pathways—a program designed to inspire youth to seek successful futures—children are exposed to fun, safety, creativity, scripture, scholarship and leadership. The Pathways Youth Center provides free afterschool care for first through eighth grade students and offers, among other services, access to a mobile library, a computer learning center and homework assistance. The Lonnie Burten Recreation Center is an excellent resource to tap into for your educational needs. The Center offers extensive recreational and health/wellness activities, unique mentoring programs and access to computers. In addition, students may soon be able to take advantage of a tutoring program where teaching professionals host the sessions and students receive a hot meal.
